Helen Bartley has been selected as the winner thanks to her mouth-watering Korean Spicy Pepper and Rice creation. Helen was inspired by her 15-year-old daughter Lauren Wheeler and their love of adventurous Asian flavours, and in particular, Korean cuisine.
We invited Helen and Lauren to see their winning suggestion in production, which is now on sale in Waitrose stores around the country.
Helen, an accountant in corporate finance, says: “My daughter Lauren is very adventurous with food and is always trying to introduce me to new flavours. She loves going to our local Thai and Chinese fusion restaurants. To see our competition entry being taken from an idea to watching it being manufactured at GLORIOUS! HQ has been a great experience!”
Student Lauren, says: “We were both very excited for our trip to the GLORIOUS! kitchens to see our creation become a reality, and to see it on the shelves is fantastic. We’re both fans of big flavours from different regions and loved the idea of a Korean soup as it’s not yet a big cuisine in UK supermarkets. I am hoping to go to university to study food science and love the idea of something a little bit different.”
Claire Roper, Brand Innovation Manager at GLORIOUS!, says: “We were delighted by the number of innovative flavour suggestions put forward in our competition with Waitrose, and Helen faced tough competition from lots of creative entrants. But the idea of a Korean vegetarian soup appealed to our love of flavour and is a perfect addition to the SkinnyLicious range.
Soups are hugely popular in Korean food culture and are often packed full of spicy flavours and served with short-grain rice. We are big fans of Korean favours, so this is a fabulous way to introduce Korean flavours into our range.”
